* Exercise is another method to prevent back pain. The vulnerable people must join yoga classes to increase flexibility of the muscles. Other core strengthening exercises are also important to make the back and the abdominal muscles strong. There are other therapies like the aquatic therapy and the egoscue method that help restore the normal balance of the body. Simple stretching exercises are also of great help.
* Ice therapy also works great when in pain. The cold ice constricts the blood vessels and restricts the blood flow. This also blocks the chemicals that trigger pain to flow in the ailing area. Ice therapy is better than heat therapy when the pain or the injury is fresh because heat increases inflammation which makes giving this therapy a bad idea. So, apply ice for initial 48- 72 hours at regular intervals.
* Heat wraps are followed by the cold wraps to soothe affected area. They work well with backache exercises. The wraps should be put close to the affected area but for not for more than 8 hours a day. Also, be careful that the temperature of the pack is moderate for the skin to bear. This will relax the muscles and decrease muscular tension.
* Massage is a good method of increasing the blood flow once the pain subsides in the affected area.
* The increasing popularity of the chiropractic treatment makes it another reliable method for treating back aches. You can consult a professional for the same and try if it works for you.
