Lower back pain can be infuriating as well as dangerous, if not treated well on time. It is a musculoskeletal disorder that is primarily concerned with the soft tissue structures such as nerves, muscles, intervertebral discs, as well as ligaments. If the lower back pain lasts for a few days or weeks then it is acute pain; if it lasts for more than three months, it is a chronic case.
There are many factors that can cause lower back pain and some of them are listed below:
Strain: One of the common reasons that lead to lower back pain is strain. Unnecessary lifting practices, inappropriate body mechanics and wrong postures can cause strain that too in the lumbar region. So, any stressful injury to the lower back should be avoided.
Age: Lower back pain in elders is a common sight. Degeneration of muscles is directly related to the aging process. What actually happens is that with time, the spine changes. As people grow old, their muscle elasticity reduces as well as the ability of spinal disc to cushion the vertebrae decreases. Intervertebral disc loses its fluid and the flexibility almost vanishes. Due to this reason, lower back pain is more prominent in the people of age group 30-50. Besides, lower back pain is also a common problem that is witnessed in women, due to calcium deficiency as well as muscle weakening.
Obesity: Your weight is directly related to the structural performance of your body. If you are overweight and you do not indulge yourself in some sort of physical activity then you can surely experience persistent lower back pain. But if you choose to exercise, your supportive muscles get strengthened and your body becomes flexible, thereby decreasing the probability of lower back pain.
Sciatica: Sciatic pain is the result of a ruptured intervertebral disc that is basically caused by compressed lumbar within the spine. Sciatica is also common in pregnant women as the extra weight of baby puts strain on the sciatic nerve. Besides, postural changes in woman during pregnancy also cause sciatica. Tingling feeling and numbness are few of the symptoms accompanied with sciatica. This pain can be cured by gentle exercises as well as posture correction.
Degenerative Diseases: Arthritis & multiple sclerosis are some of the degenerative diseases that can cause lower back pain. These diseases potentially damage the joints and muscles of the whole body. A proper diet plan as well as stretching exercises can ease the lower back pain in this case.
So, it is requisite to understand the main cause of the lower back pain as it is the only key to proper treatment.
