Is Your Wallet Causing Sciatica?

Do you know that wallets can cause immense pain in the lower back among men? And, it is not the lack of cash that is responsible but the tiny wallet itself strains the lower back and leads to sciatica in many cases. There are many studies that show the benefits of a thin wallet. These are not good to look at but they also reduce the risk of problems like back aches. A thick wallet causes you to form a wrong posture which injures the sciatic nerve and therefore leads to sciatica. But, in today's modern life with all the credit cards, bills and identity cards it is tough to manage with a small wallet. Let's look into how a tiny wallet can cause sciatica.
Many physiotherapists have reported an increase in the number of males suffering from lower back pain and the cause is supposed to be the wallet. There are professionals who have researched on it and have said that men who sit with wallets in their back pockets tend to ruin some important nerves running in the lower back area. This is a situation not to be taken lightly; it is becoming increasingly common and is reported mainly by the persons who drive with a wallet in the back pocket of their pants. This condition due to its increasing frequency among people has been given the name 'hip- pocket- syndrome' or 'wallet- neuropathy'.
The pressing of the nerves by the wallet can lead to un-necessary pressure on the sciatic nerve which in an extreme condition would result in the feeling of numbness in the lower legs, ankle or foot. It would become difficult to walk around, sit or lie down with ease. All these activities would be extremely painful. Only standing still would help.
If you experience such symptoms and even you carry a wallet in your back pocket, you must immediately consult a physiotherapist. He/she would advice you a few exercises and remedies to get rid of the excruciating pain. If your case is not too severe this should be enough to alleviate the pain.
Another solution is to carry a thin wallet as mentioned earlier. For that, you need to remove the extras in your wallet like the receipts, photos and others. You must carry only the essential stuff like the identity card and the credit cards. The others can be punched into a key chain. Also, carry cash that is enough for the day. You can also consider buying a thin wallet or a money clip to serve your purpose.
It is always better to be careful earlier than to repent later. So, do not sit with your wallet in your back pocket and take this advice seriously to avoid sciatic pain.
