In severe cases, the pain reaches the legs and makes the person helpless and immobile. The inability to do the routine work and lead a normal life gives way to frustration and anger. The penetrating negative emotions make it even more difficult for the person to deal with the problem. Hence, it is very important for these individuals to maintain their mental calm by resorting to positive thinking and spirituality. The following tips must be taken into consideration to avoid negative emotions from flowing in.

* You must look for a quiet place where there is calm and solitude. It can be any place like the bedroom, study room or the like.
* Breathe consciously. Take deep breaths slowly; be aware and feel your body calm down. You will notice that your anger and frustration will evaporate slowly and you will feel under control.
* If you are a music lover, play some soothing music to calm down yourself. Do not just play it, listen to it carefully. You will enjoy it and it will calm you down.
* Prayers are very effective. Read a prayer book or speak out your mind directly to the lord and ask for forgiveness. The words should come from deep within you and must be expressed with humility. Your prayers will definitely be answered.
* You can also watch a bone tickling movie or a video as it is said that laughter is the best medicine. It will instill in some positive thoughts for sure. Laughter illuminates your soul and it is like a massage to your brain.
* Do things that make you happy. Try to help someone in need; by doing so you will help yourself. A kind act satisfies the heart and fills it with happiness. It is like an emotional healing therapy.
* Be positive about yourself. Take proper care of yourself and try to stay mentally active. Reading for this is a good mental exercise. Do not miss your physical exercises as well, do some household work if possible. Also, eat a healthy diet. Do not consume foods that are high on fat. Rely more on vegetables, fruits, meat and dairy products.
* The last thing would be to stay hopeful come what may. Hope is a solution to all the problems.

You need to be resilient and have a fighting spirit. Sciatica can be managed and is not a life threat. You must take it in your stride and this will help you reclaim your life.
