Sciatica can be quite troublesome especially for those who drive regularly. The discomfort while driving is frustrating to deal with. The sciatic pain originates in the sciatic nerves in the lower back area. This portion of the body bears maximum stress while driving. However, driving is mandatory for some. People have to drive for work, have to drop children to school and the like. You simply cannot avoid driving. So, it is best to know what would make things easier for you if you are a sciatica patient. These days there are various solutions to treat the sciatic pain, especially while driving. Let's have a look at some tips that a sciatic patient must know to have a rather comfortable driving experience.
* If you have severe sciatic pain, you must not drive for more than thirty minutes. After a thirty minutes drive you must take a break to relax the muscles of your back and the legs.
* If you cannot avoid a long journey, you must get out of the car often and walk around to ensure blood circulation. This would be relaxing for your back too. In case you stop for coffee or something, step out of the car and drink the same.
* Before sitting on the driver's seat, make sure that you remove your wallet and your mobile phone from the back pockets of your trouser. Having these in your wallet will disturb the balance in between the sacrum and the pelvis and in no time your back would start aching.
* These days there are tailor made lumbar supports present in the cars. These are especially designed for sciatica patients. This support makes the car seat more comfortable.
* If possible keep heat pads with you, these work wonders to relax the tired muscles. Use them if you think necessary.
* If it is a long journey, you can share driving with your co passenger. May be you have a lumbar support and your heat pads with you but still, as a passenger you would definitely have more space and freedom to move around.
* It is always good to stretch out your muscles after driving or during a break from driving. You must deliberately take out time to stretch out your body. This would ease the stiffness in your lower back region.
* Consider having a hot bath after driving, you will see the fatigue go away. Moist heat is always soothing and it will settle the turmoil in your body.
* If it is possible, take a massage from a therapist or a friend. Few strokes would be enough to ease the muscle pain.
These are a few tips that would definitely make driving easier for sciatica patients.
