Three Moves to Avoid For a Painless Back
| Share |
Back pain for it being so common these days needs no introduction. You just need to mention the kind of pain you have and there are a number of treatments available for each. The professionals will present to you a long list of things you would be required to do to avoid back pain. Also, you will have quite a few exercises to include in your routine. As there would be a lot of emphasis on what to do, little importance is given to things that you must NOT do to prevent back pain. Here are THREE MOVES that are forbidden for the patients of back ache.
Bending over the waist to lift something
It is not only the ones susceptible to backache but others as well must not lift heavy items by bending on the waist. In fact, lifting even your child by bending over the waist can be equally harmful. The waist is not the right place to put pressure on during lifting activities; doing so strains the back which can lead to disc problems and muscular wear and tear. Ideally, the hip and the leg muscles should be used to lift heavy items. They are stronger and better equipped to do so. While lifting something, you must bend in front of the object and keep your spine straight; you can also use the strong abdominal muscles in the lifting activity.
Twisting your spine while lifting
Twisting your spine while lifting can land you in great trouble, problems like disc herniation and muscle strain are a direct result of this. To add to your knowledge herniated disc can cause sciatica, which is a condition of chronic back ache. Twisting your back with the knees straight can be extremely dangerous. Therefore, as mentioned above, square down in front of the object you have to lift and turn using your full body towards the direction you have to move it.
Sitting
Technically sitting is not a move, but if done in a wrong way can lead to severe back pain. Sitting in a particular way becomes a habit and it can be devastating for your back if it is not right. Wrong sitting posture strains the muscles of the lower back and puts excess pressure on the spinal discs. It also tightens the hip muscles and joints. Too much compression can cause injury to the discs which would lead to the immobility in the spine accompanied by immense pain. If your work requires you to sit for a long time, you must take short breaks and walk around to release the strain from your muscles, do a few stretches before getting back to work.
Adhere to the above mentioned DON'TS; this will also contribute to the longevity of your core muscles and bones of the lower back.
