Three Rules to Get Rid of Sciatica

Have you experienced an impinging pain in your lower back area recently? And, have you failed to figure out the reason for your trouble? It could be some muscle strain or it could be sciatica too. Sciatica is a condition caused due the discomfort in the sciatic nerve. This discomfort may be due to a number of reasons like a herniated disc, spinal stenosis or sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Whatever be the reason, the sciatic pain is severe and renders you helpless. But, if you follow the following rules, you might find respite from this discomfort.
The rule #1: take charge to handle and understand your pain
The best way to fight your problem is to take responsibility of yourself. You may be seeing a physiotherapist, a doctor or a chiropractor but till the time you won't take responsibility of yourself, relief will not be easy to get. So, for this you need to ask certain questions from yourself. These are:
* Has my doctor checked me thoroughly from head to toe or is he focusing too much on the area of pain alone? You must know that pain may reach the lower back from other areas of the body too.
* Secondly, you need to know do I understand my condition properly. Has the doctor made efforts to make me understand the same?
* Has the health service provider pointed the root cause of my problem?
* And lastly, has he/she designed a proper course of treatment?
You need to have relevant and satisfactory answers to these questions. If you have a doubt on any, do not hesitate to ask.
The rule #2: do not put all your eggs in one basket
Your problem of backache has definitely not emerged overnight. It must have taken its time to persist and then come out gradually. Similarly, there are no specific treatments that would cure your problem overnight too. You will have to be patient and put your stakes in different kinds of treatments. Relying on one treatment would not be a sensible thing to do. Sciatica is a severe condition and it would be best to try various treatments to know what works best for you.
The rule #3: stop doing what doesn't work!
So, now you are determined to get rid of your pain. You will not give up on yourself in any condition. Whatever treatments you have been trying, be it physical therapies, chiropractic treatment, exercises or yoga or any other; have a keen sense of observing what your body responds best to. Discard any treatment that is nothing more than a waste of time.
