Travelling with back pain and pinched sciatic nerve is really hectic. We all want a break but the requirement is more than the most when you have a bad back. Vacations are really great time when you can be with your family and kids. But, travelling may not seem worth it to a sciatic patient as it involves a long journey, a lot of sitting, standing and then sleeping in to a strange bed.

But, here are a few travelling tips that could help sciatica sufferers travel a little easier:

Before the travel

* Before going out to travel, don't forget to consult your doctor to confirm whether it is safe for you to travel or not.
* As per the instructions given by the doctor, arrange all the medications for pain relief. Make sure that the medicines are enough for the duration of the travel. Take some extra considering delays. Carry the medicines in hand luggage so that they are easily accessible.
* Check your travel insurance and its terms and conditions including the areas of coverage. If you are not having any travel insurance, get one before you leave for the destination.
* Book an aisle seat.
* Try to carry luggage as less as possible. Prefer the suitcases with wheels.

During the journey via flight/train/car

* Drink abundant of water during the journey. Taking back pain medication and going at an altitude results into dehydration which is peculiarly bad for the people suffering from sciatic pain. Stop your car in between and come out to relax a little.
* Avoid sleeping during the travel. It is better to stay awake to avoid uncomfortable position for your back which can elevate your back pain.
* Try to stretch and strengthen your back.
* If you have a pillow in your seat, you can use it to take support in lumbar region which can provide you great relief.
* You can use a heat pad to warm your muscles.

At the destination

* Try to stay in a hotel that's near to the airport/railway station.
* Do not forget to stretch your back frequently and pace yourself. Fix up the rest and exercise times and listen to your body.
* Do not struggle with the problem.
