Everyone has some hobby or the other. Gardening, of all the hobbies is quite popular. Gardening involves a lot of chores like planting, watering, pruning and weeding; for a person suffering from backache, doing these activities is a not an easy job. Especially, weeding for a long time is likely to aggravate back ache and worsen your condition further. The best and the safest way to avoid backache is to sit on a bucket and weed. This would help in case you wish to weed for a long time. Sitting on the bucket would mean less pressure on the knees, hip and the back and eventually less pain in these areas. But, sitting on the bucket is not the only solution; you must know how to move about efficiently too. You must stretch from time to time whenever you feel a strain. Walk around and relax yourself. Do not maintain a steady posture for too long.

The second tip that would make weeding easy for you is using all four limbs to do so. When you bend on your knees, see that you keep your back straight. A straight spine will ensure that the shoulders perform all the major movements while you weed. For example, grasping and reaching out movements should be all brought about by the shoulders. At any point if you feel tension in the muscles, you must stretch to relax your muscles and then get back to work.

Another way to protect your back is by standing and weeding. The right way to do so is to rest one of your elbows on the thigh and use one arm to do the job. The resting elbow would provide external support to the body and it would be comfortable to work for long hours. Or you can also use a wide stance for extended body support.

Other than the above mentioned tips, you can also sit on the ground the right way to save your back from any unwanted strain. But, this is an option only for the ones with comparatively healthier backs; chronic cases may avoid this one. You must sit with your legs bent, with one leg in the front and the other at the back. Also, rest your sitting bones equally on the ground. This will straighten your pelvis and the spine and this position is less likely to trigger backache.

The whole point in all the weeding positions lies in keeping the spine straight and removing chances of strain to the back. So, if you wish to avoid discomfort during weeding, follow the above mentioned tips to proceed with your task.
