Qi Gong For Sciatica Pain Relief
| Share |
Sciatic pain is a condition that hundreds suffer from due to the degeneration of spinal disc, disc herniation, piriformis syndrome and others similar causes. And, it's true that there are a lot of remedies for sciatica and other kind of back pain but by and large it is seen that none proves to be a perfect cure. Any treatment would work best if it treats the root cause of the pain. Among the various natural and effective methods of treatment developed by the Chinese, Qi Gong is one formula worth a mention.
The Qi gong (Chi Kung) training directs the chi in the body towards the area where this energy is deficient or blocked. These exercises have similar effects like those of acupuncture. The fundamental of the Qi Gong is 'Shen (mind) leads the Chi (energy)'. So, in these exercises you are asked to focus your mind on the area of pain (lower back). As you make your focus stronger, Chi moves to the point of focus and facilitates the process of healing. Similarly, in acupuncture when you have a needle stuck at your back, it makes you concentrate on it and catches your complete focus and therefore Chi moves in with its healing powers. As acupuncture is also a treatment for sciatica, Qi Gong is often recommended in between the acupuncture sessions.
Qi Gong is something similar to yoga as well. It has moves as per the requirement like in yoga. Some moves are performed while standing, some while moving and some while sitting. There are some that require a lot of effort in terms of strength and patience, while there are others that require you to focus mentally.
There is something called the external Qi Gong as well. In this one, the practitioner or the trainer will apply Chi or Qi to your body from his or hers by placing his/her hands on the area of discomfort on your body. The warmth in the hands of the practitioner is the indication that the Qi of his/ her body is ready to be transferred to your body.
As the treatment involves touching by the other person, it is important that you feel comfortable throughout the treatment. Else, your muscles would stiffen and the treatment would not work. If you feel uncomfortable with the touches, you must not force the treatment on yourself or you would in turn affect yourself negatively.
When it is about sciatica, do not take chances. Tell your practitioner about the way you feel. Most of the people who have taken this treatment have experienced great results. It helps restore the lost balance of your body and frees you from the clutches of the dreaded condition.
