Chiropractic Therapy Heals Sciatica
| Share |
Chiropractic therapy is based upon the evaluation of causes of sciatica pain leading to muscle therapy which is non-invasive and non-surgical.
There are many who suffer from sciatic pain. It is the outcome of pressure on the sciatic nerves which are bound together with a connective tissue. This pain is experienced in the lower back and the buttocks. These nerves originate from L4-S3 part of the spinal cord. Many cases of sciatic pain are relieved by the chiropractic therapy. In this therapy, first the entire pattern and causes of sciatic pain are investigated. These investigations are done with the help of orthopedic exams, neurological testing, and other diagnostic tests like MRIs.
The investigations yield the cause whether herniated disc is responsible or there is any other reason. Sciatic pain is mainly caused by Piriformis Syndrome. The piriformis muscle is a small triangular-shaped muscle present deep in the buttocks. The sciatic nerve mostly passes through this muscle which can cause pressure resulting into severe pain. The position of sciatic nerve depends upon how a person is born. When piriformis muscle is irritated, it can lead to a chronic condition.
The chiropractic therapy is deployed after assessing the following five symptoms:
* Herniated disc problems- In medical terms, this condition is known as sciatic neuritis which means nerve inflammation.
* Spinal stenosis- It is a common cause of sciatica which is narrowing of the spinal column that is generating inflammation.
* Nerve entrapment- The mechanical imbalances in the spine are checked which can lead to muscular tightness. This results into nerve entrapment of the sciatic nerve.
* Facet joints problems- The functioning of the facet joints is evaluated when the pain is experienced mainly in joints.
* Presence of tumors or infection- The biody is thoroughly checked to locate the presence of any tumors or any kind of infection.
All the above stated symptoms are evaluated one by one and the main culprit is treated. The muscle therapy is deployed to the muscles that have loosened and they are restored back to release pressure on the sciatic nerve. If none of the symptoms is traced, the chiropractor refers you to another doctor to find out if there is presence of any tumor or infection. The chiropractor diagnoses the cause of sciatic pain and treats the problem accordingly. If the pain is caused by piriformis syndrome, there are certain chiropractic therapies which are utilized to relax the piriformis muscle. This is done to lessen the irritation of the nerve root.
The main objective of chiropractor is to find out, diagnose and treat your specific problem in a more conservative way. It is a non-invasive and non-surgical method. This therapy involves the treatment of disc, joints and muscle problems. The job of a chiropractor is not confined to therapy alone. He is also responsible for the future care for the patient.
